The alternator is an important component of the engine that charges the battery and supplies electricity to the car. It converts mechanical energy to electrical energy via the rotation of magnets.
Most alternators have a long lifespan and last around seven years, or between 80,000 to 150,000 miles.
To test the alternator, disconnect the battery from the car before starting the engine. If the engine stalls while running, it indicates a faulty alternator.
It's possible for a new alternator to fail with incorrect assembly. Tight or loose bearings, defective components or dirt contamination could be the cause.
