The lambda sensor measures oxygen content in the car's exhaust, ensuring the engine control unit (ECU) can adjust the air-fuel ratio in the engine itself and reduce harmful emissions as a result.
If the lambda sensor is faulty, it won't send data to the ECU. This can lead to increased fuel consumption and higher polluting emissions, as well as a clogged catalytic converter.
It's not recommended to drive with a faulty lambda sensor, due to the risk of engine damage and bad emissions produced. A broken lambda sensor can also be classed as a fail on your MOT.
Continuing to drive with a faulty oxygen sensor will only make the problem worse. Eventually, you may experience poor acceleration, engine misfires, and failed emission tests.
