While the maintenance of a timing belt depends on the make and model of a vehicle, typically, timing belts should be replaced every four to five years, or between 40,000 and 100,000 miles.
A timing belt and cambelt are the same, and may be used interchangeably when talking about vehicles.
An obvious sign of a worn timing belt is a clicking or ticking sound coming from the engine. Abnormal sounds while accelerating, such as screeching or whirring, may also indicate that the timing belt needs replacing.
It is possible to replace a timing belt yourself with the proper tools, and ideally a strong mechanical knowledge. We recommend getting it fitted by a professional to ensure accurate installation.
