Saab catalytic converter is the most important part of a car's emission control system. It uses a combination of heat and precious metals to promote a chemical reaction to convert harmful pollutants into less harmful emissions before they leave the exhaust system.

The operating temperature of a catalytic converter is between 350 to 400 degrees Celsius. Once the cat has reached this temperature a chemical reaction occurs as the exhaust gases flow through the coated monolith. The harmful gases are oxidised and converted in less harmful gases and passed out through the exhaust system.
