The lambda sensor is a vital component that monitors the conversion of gases from high to low toxicity by the catalytic converter. The issues attributed to a faulty sensor come at a hefty price, so it's better to act quickly if yours isn't working.
The lambda sensor measures oxygen content in the car's exhaust, ensuring the engine control unit (ECU) can adjust the air-fuel ratio in the engine itself and reduce harmful emissions as a result.
If the lambda sensor is faulty, it won't send data to the ECU. This can lead to increased fuel consumption and higher polluting emissions, as well as a clogged catalytic converter.
It's not recommended to drive with a faulty lambda sensor, due to the risk of engine damage and bad emissions produced. A broken lambda sensor can also be classed as a fail on your MOT.
Continuing to drive with a faulty oxygen sensor will only make the problem worse. Eventually, you may experience poor acceleration, engine misfires, and failed emission tests.
